Scorpion Sprint 2008
It is with much reluctance and regret that Sutton & Cheam MC / Team Tempest announce the cancellation of the Scorpion Sprint.
The event, which was due to take place on Sunday 6th July at The Longcross Test Track, has fallen far short of the necessary entry levels in order to make it viable.
Clerk of the Course Chris Phillips commented 'Whilst Longcross is one of the most exciting sprint venues in the country, it is also one of the most expensive in terms of hire charges.  In order to just break-even events need a minimum of around 90-entries and so the 46 received to date is a long way short.  We could have waited until next Wednesday's closing date but there is such a huge difference in the numbers that it simply isn't going to happen and we want to give everyone, competitors, marshals and officials as much notice as possible.  We thank those who have entered for their support and assure them that no cards or cheques will be charged".
Deputy Clerk of the Course Barry Guess added 'It's a real disappointment after the regaining the use of the venue for motorsport at the start of the year.  I am sure that it is a blip, mainly due to the escalating fuel costs and the so called Credit-Crunch the media seem to be highlighting at present'.
The event was to be the second Speed event of the year at the Chertsey Test Track and it is hoped that both the Scorpion and it's 'sister-event' the Chieftain Sprint will take place in 2009.

What is Team Tempest all about?

The Team Tempest website now hosts all the competitive activity for Sutton & Cheam Motor Club. This has been done to underline the distinction between the Motorsporting activities and the Club Social activities.
Don't worry it is the same team, just a new identity.
The basic idea is that ‘Team Tempest’ identifies you as not only Sutton & Cheam Motor Club Members but also as someone who can offer advice, help and assistance to fellow Team Tempest Members.

It’s also a 2-way street as from time-to-time you too could need some help whether it be borrowing a set of spark plugs or help changing a gearbox, when you’re in trouble and it’s all hands to the pumps, it may be the difference between winning or retiring.

Whether it be as a driver or co-driver, exchanging tips or gaining the recognition for running superb events, Team Tempest is a badge that can be worn with pride.
