SBD Scorpion Sprint 2006 Saturday 15th July 2006

Following a rather damp Cheiftain Sprint in April it was great to see 94 entries gathered at Longcross for the SBD Scorpion Sprint on 15th July. The weather could not have been a greater contrast with searing temperatures guaranteeing ultimate grip. Despite all of this we still had one or two ‘triers’ who went outside of the superb Longcross tarmac but as is almost always the case, nothing more than pride was dented.

Our congratulations go to all of our class winners, many of whom set new Course Records.

As to our Fastest Time of the Day Brodie Branch, we are getting used to his stonking pace and yet again he obliterated the previous Scorpion Course record of 92.74 by taking his Caterham Hayabusa to a fantastic 85.93!

We would like to thank all of the 40-odd marshals who stood at the side watching all the antics (a derivation of the word lunatics), enduring the heat with many dressed in fireproofs for the best part of 7-hours. Sprint Marshalling can be mind numbing for most of the day but they all stayed alert and responded brilliantly when needed – without them we simply couldn’t have had such fun. On the subject of the marshals, our congratulations go to Gavin Cross from Southsea who won the £50 prize draw, a truly deserving winner.
Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to Dick Hulbert, Carole Torkington, Steve Broughton and everyone at SBD Motorsport for their support of this event. Without it there probably wouldn’t have been a 2006 Scorpion Sprint. Longcross is a fantastic venue for all kinds of motor sport although it is also one of the most expensive venues in the Sprinting calendar – Thank you for your participation and whilst you continue to support them, we will endeavour to promote events here.
