Scorpion Sprint 2005

Sunday 17th July 2005

Results

This years event was held in bright sunshine and with a dry course the competitors came to the finish with broad smiles that said that they had enjoyed themselves.

Slick organisation ment that the results were being presented at 4.15 PM and competitors and oganisers were able to get away for a well deserved drink to make up for the pounds lost in the in the warm weather.
Andy Silman came to the event determined to make FTD, but he was pipped by Dick Hulbert in the SBD Westfield, sorry Andy you will have to try again next year - if we are lucky.
Full results are available, click on the link to the left to view.

Note:

Due to the rather disapointing entry compared to the Chieftain Sprint earlier in the year coupled with the high cost of the venue this may be the last year that we are able to run this event - unless we get a sponsor. So if you know anyone that would be willing to support a well run and "different" sprint, please call barry guess on 01252 727390.

Overview
Differing from its sister event The Cheiftain Sprint held back in April, The Scorpion Sprint (Longcross is the home of Chobham Armour and both classes of Tank) boasts a much faster course.
Starting on the main track in front of the Control Tower, the first part of the course heads under the bridge and straight into the banked turn before heading along the 450 metre straight before turning 90 left and 90 right into the infamous ‘Snake’.
The Snake is really the Jewel in the Crown with its negative camber bends and of course, the crest at the top of the hill. It isn’t the place for the faint-hearted although without exception, every real driver loves it.
At the end of the Snake the course turns 90 right and 90 left back onto the outer track before heading along the gently sweeping 500-metre curve. As it starts to straighten, it’s another 90 left 90 right into the finish with 400 metres of stopping distance.
The future of Longcross is never secure and as it passes into new ownership in November 2005, this could be one of the last opportunities to say ‘I DROVE THE SNAKE’
For those who have never been to Longcross, make no mistake; there isn’t a runway or landing light anywhere in sight! Being ideally placed just a few miles off the M25 at J10, Longcross offers a hard-standing paddock, acres of space, permanent toilet facilities and is ideal for all the family with a special viewing area (All visitors must be at the venue by 9am). We held a ‘Snake Walk Through’ prior to the start of competition for those unfamiliar with the layout.
