Scorpion Sprint 2004

Sunday 11th July 2004
After the torrential downpours of April’s Cheiftain Sprint, it was great to enjoy some dry tarmac at Longcross for a change.
The Snake proved as daunting as ever with one or two over enthusiastic drivers simply running out of talent. No serious incidents thankfully and a reasonably quiet day for the Safety Services.
We pay tribute to the 30 or so Marshals who supervised the day with such professionalism. We all know that Sprinting isn’t the most spectacular of spectator sports but they remained on duty and alert, ensuring a safe and efficient day. Efficiency seemed to be the by-word of the day because 2 practice runs and 3 timed runs were executed with little difficulty, which allowed for an Awards Presentation by 4pm.
Smiles all round at the Awards showed how many people enjoyed their day, especially that of Fastest Time of the Day Richard Lee, who set the tarmac alight as the Metro left the start line – launch control is a wonderful thing!
Finally, increasing pressure from local residents probably means that this will be the last year we can run the courses in this configuration so we look forward to welcoming you back to Longcross in 2005 for a new look Cheiftain and Scorpion Sprints.
