Longmoor Loco Stages in association with 4-Sport Video
Monday 2nd January 2006
After a few years of trying and after a superb and spectacular drive, Michael Holland and Dan Palmer took the spoils in the New Years Longmoor Loco Stages. Fastest on 7 of the 8 stages, the pairing steered their immaculate Escort Mk1 RS1600 through the twists and turns of this most technical venue to win by just over a minute.

The Longmoor Loco stages held in association with 4-Sport Video, caters for 2 wheel drive cars only, but always provides tight battles all the way through the field. Held at Longmoor Barracks in Hampshire, to win requires a controlled and accurate approach to avoid coming to grief on the many kerbs, trees and buildings.

In second place after a smooth run and one fastest stage were Geoff Bennett and Mike Stewart in another Escort. Coming in third were last years winners Andy Corner and James Greenwood in their Peugeot 205, some 6 seconds behind Bennett/Stewart and probably ruing some 20 seconds lost to the leaders on SS5.

Fourth and first in class C were Paul Boxall and Theresa Butler in another Peugeot just ahead of the impressive Abusa powered Peugeot 205 of Brian Lee and Mark Wilcox who also took the spoils in class A.

Rounding off the top 6 in their big Nissan 240RS and winning class D on the way was ex British Rally Champ Ian Roberton, co – driven for the first time by daughter Hollie.

Dominic Worsfold/Mark Holding won class B after a fine drive in their Fiesta.

One crew to find out early that Longmoor bites were the fancied runners of Will Nichols/Nick Broom who’s Escort Mk2 clouted a tree hard on SS1. Fortunately the only injury being to both Wills pride and pocket. Apparently the tree came off second best.

Other front running retirements included Berian Richards/Russell Davies’ Escort who left the fray whilst lying second, and Pauls King and Hollingham who’s Escorts engine expired after SS3.

Another excellent event by Sutton and Cheam Motor Club saw the 33 finishers leave tired and happy having worked off the Christmas excess’ in style!
