The Longmoor Loco Stages 2004 was the the event to be driving
a Peugeot 205. The winners were Andy Corner & James Greenwood
in a Peugeot 205, followed into second place by the Peugeot 205
Abusa of Brian Lee & Mark Wilcox and the top three was rounded
of by Les Skeet & Ian Meakin in (you guessed) the Peugeot 205
Maxi.
As always, this event which is open to 2 wheel drive cars only
offered some technical and tricky stages around Longmoor Barracks
that required a smooth and accurate approach to avoid coming to
grief on the many kerbs, trees and buildings around the venue.
It was Corners first win after 24 years of rallying and thoroughly
deserved, the crew stamping their authority on proceedings on the
first 2 stages when conditions were exceptionally tricky due to
black ice everywhere! |

Hot on the winners heels was the impressive Abusa
powered Peugeot 205 of Brian Lee and Mark Wilcox. They closed to
within 10 seconds of Corner/Greenwood by the finish.
Making it a Peugeot clean sweep in 3rd was the ever sideways Les
Skeet/Ian Meakin in another 205, this one a rear wheel drive version.
4th place and first in class D was claimed by the spectacular Michael
aHolland/Dan Palmer in their beautiful Escort Mk1 RS1600.
Another Escort, this time a Mk2 RS1800 in the hands of Mike Lower/Stephen
Geenhill took 5th and 1st in class C after a clean and steady run.
Rounding off the top 6 was Tim Mewett and Liz Jordan in a Vauxhall
Astra. |
In the classes, James Muir and Tom Soloman scooped
the class A award in their Peugeot 205 Rallye. Class B went to Rob
Norrington/Andy Juniper in a Honda Civic VTI.
Major retirements included Julian Wilkes/Shane Bowen in dad Dave
Wilkes’ Corsa RWD who clouted a tree on SS2 causing the stage
to be cancelled. Fortunately the driver escaped with bruising, but
Shane Bowen the co-driver had a rib broken by the seat belts - Get
well soon.

Many thanks to all the competitors who
made up a full entry for a fun days antidote to Turkey and Christmas
pud and to all the many marshals and officials that made the day
possible.

| The Longmoor Loco Stages is our final tarmac stage rally of the
year and held in association with 4-Sport Video. This is the only
stage rally to be held at Longmoor Army Camp, Bordon, Hants and so
it presents a unique opportunity to drive the fantastic complex of
roads. Because of its compact nature and intricate road network, we
have decided to restrict the entry to 2-wheel drive vehicles only.
