Chieftain Sprint 2006

Sunday 23rd April 2006

Report
Unlike the previous day, the weather dawned cool and damp and so the formalities and the "Snake Walk" were rather damp affairs.

The event started promptly and competitors clearly took some notice of the Drivers Briefing exhortation to "not be silly" on the practice runs and there were few delays.

After lunch however, as the rain slowed and stopped, the excitement got the better of some of the competitors and we started to see more"incidents" as drivers started to push,

Indeed on the first of the competitive runs, nearly a third of competitors managed to spin on the hairpin after having successfully negotiated the snake with no problem!.
At the end of the day, FTD was taken by Andrew Griffiths with a controlled but aggressive run.

Class 1 was won by Daniel Whittington and avery full Class 2 was won again by Maurice May who this year did not have to look over his shoulder for his son!

Paul Colton took Class 3 in the Impreza and the Caterham Blackbird took Bill Hailstone to a class 4win.

Andy Silman took a comfortable winn in class

.It was good to see the Straker family Austin Healy Sprite out again and in Class 6 Jeremy took the honours here over brother Mark by 0.3 of a second.

Ian Gibson took Class 7 in the very quiet Honda Integra type R while the Brutally powerful Sierra Cosworth of Kevin Salisbury took Class 8 by 3 seconds and finally Jerry Bailey took class 9

The Lotus Battle was concluded in favour of Darren Luke by 5 seconds over Adrian Williams and In the MG class Richard Withers took victory by only 0.1 of a second from Chris Cooper

The TVR handicap rules served to confuse most of the audience at prize giving. The fastest time was taken by Jes Firth who did not however pick up the trophy.
