| Differing from its sister event The
Scorpion Sprint held in July, The Chieftain Sprint (Longcross is the home
of Chobham Armour and both classes of Tank) boasts a longer, more dramatic
course. Starting on the ‘Straight & Level’, the course skirts the edge of the Belgian Pave before turning 90 left along the old Railway straight and sweeping right into the now infamous ‘Snake’. The Snake is re ally the Jewel in the Crown with its negative camber bends and of course the enormous crest at the top of the hill. It isn’t the place for the faint-hearted although without exception, every real driver loves it. At the end of the Snake and adjacent to the Paddock, the course hairpins onto the Outer Track for a long blast through Mansion Crossing, around the lower banked track before hitting a large chicane at the Northern most point of the venue. From there its another blast around the remainder of the banked track into the long Finish Straight. The overall length of the course is well in excess of 2 miles of fast, testing super-smooth asphalt suitable for drivers of all levels of experience and capability. Sadly, Longcross is likely to disappear soon as part of the Strategic Defence Review and so the Chieftain and Scorpion Sprints may be your last chance to say ‘I drove the Snake’. For those who have never been to Longcross, make no mistake; there isn’t a runway or landing light anywhere in sight! Being ideally placed just a few miles from the M25 at J10, Longcross offers a hard-standing paddock, acres of space, permanent toilet facilities and is ideal for all the family with a special viewing area (All visitors must be at the venue by 9am). We will be holding a ‘Snake Walk Through’ prior to the start of competition. |
